FASNY is the major organization representing volunteer firefighters in New York State.
Challenge: The Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) has been around since 1872 and since then, has done countless great things for volunteer firefighters throughout New York State, such as training, support, education and legislation. However, their "look" did not reflect their success.
FASNY had the potential to grow their volunteer firefighter membership to well over 100,000 members. In 1999, when ABC Creative Group began working with FASNY, the organization only had about 7,500 members total.
Idea: ABC developed The Volunteer Firefighter, a high-end, full-color, 48-page monthly publication with the sole purpose of promoting all of the things that FASNY did for their members. Volunteer firefighters from numerous counties across the state finally realized the benefits of belonging to the FASNY organization and steadily signed up to become members. The Volunteer Firefighter has been referred to as the "best state fire publication in the country." ABC has also promoted their training and education series and events in the state with as much success as The Volunteer Firefighter.
In addition to developing strategic plans for the primary FASNY organization, ABC has assisted many of FASNY's committees with hundreds of projects such as, public relations, recruitment and retention, crisis management, fire prevention awareness, event promotion, public service announcements and several other forms of media and communications outlets.
Most recently, ABC has developed an interactive website for FASNY that incorporates video, photos and audio while launching a social media marketing campaign for the organization on sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
Results: FASNY's current membership is now 50,000 strong and is continuing to grow each month.
